Suriname and French Guyana

Day 1: Arrive in Paramaribo and transfer to your accommodation in the city center

Day 2: The morning will be free, and in the afternoon you will have a tour of this fascinating capital.

Day 3: A full day tour to Santigron, a wonderful community-based tourism program operating in a Maroon village 50 kilometres from the center of town.

Day 4: Transfer to the border community of Albina where you will cross the Moroni River to French Guyane by pirogue, the local motorized canoe. Once in Guyane, you will clear French customs and take a taxi to the Hotel La Tentaire for a two-night stay; you will also be able to walk to the car-rental location to pick up your vehicle.

Day 5: You will have a full day to explore St Laurent and the famous transportation camp. Discover the west road and drive to Kourou. Overnight at the Hotel Atlantis.

Day 6: Breakfast at your hotel and in the morning, visit of the Guiana Space Center; this remarkable facility launches 15 rockets each year, and is the center of the European Space Agency. Overnight at the Hotel Atlantis in Kourou.

Day 7: Today you will have a full day excursion to the Isle du Salut, a major center from the era of the French Penal colony. It is a 90 minute crossing by catamaran, and when there, you will visit of Royale and St Joseph islands. The sailing back to the mainland will bring you back by 5.30, in time to drive to Cayenne where you will spend two nights at the Hotel Le Central.

Day 8: A full day to explore the city of Cayenne; its architecture, the famous “Palmiste place” or shopping by your own. Overnight at the Hotel Le Central.

Day 9 : Today you will head into the interior of this extraordinary country; first, you will drive to Régina where you will board a dugout canoe on the Approuague river and go upstream to the forest camp of Saut Athanase, lunch at camp and the discovery of the Amazonian environment. Dinner and night at the camp (straw hut/ hammock, bungalow with beds are available with an extra charge). Please note that there is no English speaking interpreter at the camp!
 
Day 10: This morning you will have a guided walking tour in the rain forest, an opportunity to swim in the river and an initiation to traditional gold searching. Following lunch you will return by canoe and car to Cayenne and overnight at the hotel Le Central.


Day 11: Drive to the Airport to drop off your car and depart. 

Note: For those returning by air to Suriname, you will need to arrange a double/multi-entry visa.

  • Accommodation for eleven nights, ten in conventional hotels with one in hammock-accommodation at Saut Athenase . Local transfers as specified, with the Maroni River crossing paid locally.
  • A half day tour of Paramaribo, a full day tour to the Surinamese rainforest and a full day tour to the Iles de Salut by catamaran. A two-day, one night program to Saut Athenase (including meals) from Cayenne.
  • An economy car with limited mileage (200kms/day) and the one way drop off fee included.
