Biography

Who is Andrea:
Andrea joined The Great Canadian Travel Group in March 2017, after working 12 years for the provincial government. She grew up in a small town in the Canadian Shield and loves rocks, trees, water and wild animals. She is the first person you will see when you walk into the 164 Marion building.

What are Andrea’s TOP 5 travel experiences:

  • Adventuring in New Zealand for 6 months; white water kayaking in various rivers, touring, and hiking in the Coromandel Peninsula
  • Zip-lining in the St. Lucian rainforest with her husband, her two brothers and their partners
  • Road-tripping to the West Coast of Canada and exploring Vancouver Island
  • Hiking to the top of Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh, Scotland and eating haggis in the pubs
  • Taking a punting tour along the River Cam in Cambridge, England

Ireland Speaks to Me Like No Other Place on Earth

My maternal Grandma, Hannah Muirhead, emigrated to Canada from County Antrim, Ireland (now part of Northern Ireland) back in the late 1800’s.  Two of her brothers and a sister had sailed to Canada a few years earlier.  Sadly, her sister died of black fever on the crossing and was buried at sea, but her brothers arrived safely and made their way west to homestead at the Derry Corner, near Douglas, Manitoba. They then invited Hannah to come and join them. I can’t imagine leaving my family and everything that was familiar to me and sailing across the Atlantic to an unknown place, all at the age of 19.
