They say you never forget how to ride a bicycle and it hadn’t been that long ago since I had been on a bike, so I decided that doing a bike tour of Dublin would be a great idea. I did not think through the fact that that would mean that I would be riding on the wrong side of the road, through downtown Dublin traffic, and on many cobble stone roads. However, how hard can that be?????
Much to my surprise, and relief, it was easier than I thought, and I had a blast. The cobble streets are rough and bumpy, but that’s what makes it an adventure. For the next 2 hours I rode (right behind the guide, of course) through windy residential streets, back lanes, past church yards, breweries and the entrances into Dublin Castle (that’s us in front of it).
Hugh, our entertaining guide from Lazy Bike Rentals, was very knowledgeable and gave us lots of informative tidbits on Dublin. For those who want to make the ride a little easier, they rent out E-bikes (electric bikes) which are very popular.
Doing a bike trip does not replace the distance and knowledge that you would learn on the Hop on Hop off bus, but is a great way of soaking up the sun, getting some exercise and being a part of the bustle of the city.
