MacNeil, Todd and Rachelle – Ancestral Scotland

September 30, 2020 | Lois Farley

We’ve been meaning to connect with you, Lois. Jumped right back into reality when we got home.

Our trip exceeded our expectations! We thought this trip to Scotland would be a once in a lifetime visit, however this is far from the truth. There is so much more to explore and see.

We appreciated your experience with Scotland and your choice of BnB, based on our travel path and plan, worked out perfectly.

Only one BnB was disappointing due to small cramped room with an uncomfortable bed. This was in Oban. All other BnB were 5*. Ibis hôtels in Glasgow was in a good location (only downside is that across the street they are demolishing several buildings, therefore not pretty to look at). The Ibis in Edinburgh was fantastic!

Driving was an experience. Exciting, nerve wracking and fun all in one! Todd was an excellent driver with no incidents! We loved the flexibility of having our own car and Enterprise car rental was great to work with.

We loved staying at BnBs for so many reasons. Very personable, helpful and comfortable. Not worrying about breakfast made the start of our day relaxing and knowing we would be fed very well was reassuring. All breakfasts were top notch. Todd had haggis every morning! He was in his glory.

We really cannot just choose a few things, as it was all so amazing. The top highlights would be our last minute decision to visit Blackness castle and Linlithgow palace (knowing these two have never been touched is amazing). Meeting locals and enjoying conversation in Oban. Loch Ness cruise in the mist was unforgettable.

Biking in the Cairngorms was beautiful and the staff at Mike Bikes were very helpful in recommending trails. Our 2-hour tour at Glenfiddich distillery was exceptional. It was exactly what we’d hoped it would be. The Jacobite steam train was another great suggestion. What an experience!

Everything about Barra was special! The flight was breathtaking and unforgettable. Best decision we made, including this ancestral pilgrimage to Barra (seat of Clan MacNeil). It is unfortunate that due to weather we never made it to the Kisimul Castle. We believe it was a sign in that we need to return to visit the castle and the rest of the Hebrides! The Cafe Kisimul is THE BEST Indian food we’ve ever had!

The bus and train service was excellent and convenient. Our ride to Edinburgh from Glasgow was relaxing and smooth. Highly recommend first class as we pre booked our seats and didn’t need to worry about getting a good seat. Worth the 20$.

The Royal Tattoo was so much more than we thought it to be! Thank you for this wonderful experience, it was the best part of Edinburgh.

We found Edinburgh to be overwhelmingly busy with the fringe festival, Tattoo and tourism. It also poured rain for our last day there so didn’t take to much in. Thinking a re-do should be included in our next visit. We always felt safe and it was very clean everywhere we went.

Thanks again for your expertise in taking care of our flights, accommodations, passes and suggested sights. We appreciate that you always took into consideration our budget when planning our 16 day trip ensuring what was important to us was not compromised.
