McLeod, Joan and Philip – African Tanzania Migration

September 20, 2016 | Martha Banias

It had always been a dream to see the migration and some of the African National Parks. Our dream came true when we booked a “Chance to See the Migration” tour with GCTC and their new partner Asilia. Apart from the lure of the migration, the chance to sleep under tents and also in a moveable camp was a determinant in choosing this tour for travel in May 2016.

Not only were we in the middle of the migration with Wildebeest and Zebras kicking up dust all around us during the day, the sounds of the wild permeated into our tents at night. Awakening to delicious coffee and enjoying the sunrise each morning from the “open” windows of the tents was a delight.

The guides were knowledgeable and eager to accommodate the group’s interest….finding game and herds for our delight every day.

Camping was never like this when we did it thirty years ago. Asilia camps had wonderfully comfortable space with full en-suites, seating areas inside and out, and warm comfortable beds. Food was locally sourced and staff some of the friendliest and happiest we have come across.

All in all, it was an amazing trip with excellent travel companions and excellent organization!
