STAFF PICKS

March 14, 2023 | Pearl McCallum

We want to paint a picture for you.   Imagine you’re at a gathering with friends and acquaintances. It’s a fairly large group, let’s say around 15-20 people. Just as you begin to get hungry, someone brings out a large, layered cake. It’s smothered in rich, chocolate buttercream frosting – …

Way back in 2017 I wrote a blog in recognition of Canada Day; 50 Great Things Canada Contributed to the World. Since I wrote that blog I’ve been studying about the Indigenous peoples who have lived on this land we now call Canada for millennia – the First Nations and …

Saint Patrick’s Day brings Ireland and all things Irish to a lot of people’s minds. And, those of us lucky enough to be Irish or are of Irish descent, particularly so! My ancestors on both sides of my family emigrated to Canada from Ireland back in the mid to late …

Romohr, Monte – Goldsand Lake Lodge, Manitoba

May 27, 2020 | Oksana Szwaluk

Having fished at Goldsand Lake for several years, I was concerned when I discovered that commercial airlines were no longer scheduling flights to the Lynn Lake airport.  If we still wanted to fish that great Walleye and Northern Pike fishery, my party of eight would have to endure two grueling days on the road and forfeit valuable fishing time.

So, I contacted Okswana Szwaluk of the Great Canadian Travel Company in Winnipeg.  I have used her services several times in arranging commercial flights and trips to northern Canadian lakes.  She found two charter carriers as options to the driving alternative.  I chose “Wings Over Kississing” and couldn’t be happier.  They booked our flights at a reasonable cost and adjusted the flight times to meet our needs.  Their staff was very friendly, helpful and accommodating.  The flights were piloted by experienced, friendly, and professional pilots who made sure that our trip was safe, comfortable and enjoyable.

May 27, 2020 | Allison Silvaggio

My recent trip to Yellowknife and Blachford Lake Lodge was beyond incredible.  I am so thankful to Allison for suggesting this trip!  The 3 nights that I spent at Blachford Lake Lodge were magical.  Fabulous scenery, wonderful people, scrumptious food, and amazing auroras.   The last night in Yellowknife with the Northern Lights was a perfect finale! Mazza, Barbara and Ted – Rocky Mountaineer & Yakutat

May 27, 2020 | Allison Silvaggio

We had a great trip!  All the details worked and we were very pleased.  The Rocky Mountaineer was everything as advertised.  The accommodations in Kamloops were just wonderful. The Listel Hotel staff provided absolutely first class service.  They were helpful with our tours, gave us complimentary tickets to the Bill Reid Museum, provided a french press coffee for us when we had to get up early to go to the airport.  All the staff we met were focused on customer service.  It was a joy to stay there. Very nice selection! Read More >

Thank you Karen Pearson and The Great Canadian Travel Group for the trip of a life-time!

My adult kids and I were planning a trip to Ireland and at first I was looking up guided tours, where to go, what to do, where to stay….… phew! How do you choose? And with so much information on the internet, how do you know what is accurate? I gave up. This is when I found Karen and the Great Canadian Travel Group!

What a relief. And what a wonderful job Karen did for us. Read More >

Foreman, Lucie & Perry – Wales & England

May 20, 2020 | Sandra Jensen

Hi, Sandra. Our trip was wonderful!!!  Tenby (Wales) is so picturesque, with warm weather and palm trees. I couldn’t believe England had palm trees! It seemed that everyone there had a dog and the dogs were allowed everywhere, into stores, restaurants and on tours  (apparently the British are crazy about their dogs). I did have a hard time sitting in the passenger seat without a steering wheel on that side and driving on the wrong side of the road. The scenery was beautiful, but the roads were no more than wide bike paths.

Our trip to Iceland was fantastic! Better than expected.

Kathy K – A Hike in Iceland

May 19, 2020 | Lois Farley

Often listed as a “Top Ten Hike in the World”, I was interested in hiking the Laugavegur Trail.  At 55 km, (if you don’t do the additional 23 km day down to the sea) this is a hike done in either three or four days, though the uber fit run it in a day (yeah, that is not me – I did it in three days).  Read More >

Allen, Nancy & Zitzke, Knut – Footsteps of the Vikings

May 18, 2020 | Allison Silvaggio

Our Iceland and Faroe Island Trip has been a Bucket List Trip of ours and we soon realized the complexities of coordinating travel, lodging, side excursions and were extremely lucky to find Allison and The Great Canadian Travel Group.  We had numerous calls and emails with Allison to create  this trip just the way we wanted and Allisons advice and suggestions were excellent.  We feel we could not have done this on our own due to coordination and lack of connections.

The entire trip worked out perfectly.  All vouchers were honoured without problems.  All accommodations were as described and our custom excursions, horseback riding and hiking, were exceptional. Read More >
