STAFF PICKS

August 21, 2024 | Pearl McCallum

It is August 2024.  Since the return of travel in early 2022 following the Covid-19 pandemic, airlines have faced staff shortages, strike action (actual and threatened), tightening regulations, and higher operating costs.  These conditions, in addition to the challenges of regular operations, can seriously affect an airline’s level of service.  …

We want to paint a picture for you.   Imagine you’re at a gathering with friends and acquaintances. It’s a fairly large group, let’s say around 15-20 people. Just as you begin to get hungry, someone brings out a large, layered cake. It’s smothered in rich, chocolate buttercream frosting – …

Way back in 2017 I wrote a blog in recognition of Canada Day; 50 Great Things Canada Contributed to the World. Since I wrote that blog I’ve been studying about the Indigenous peoples who have lived on this land we now call Canada for millennia – the First Nations and …

Perks of Working with a Travel Consultant

April 16, 2020 | Martha Banias

This blog from Martha Banias, one of our senior consultants, was first published in March 2016 but, in these days of upheaval in the travel industry, it holds true more than ever! So, we feel it’s definitely worth republishing and serves as her Best Days Ever! blog, because among her best days are days she spends working with her clients.

Are ‘real live’ travel consultants, who you can actually talk to on the phone and who know you by name, becoming obsolete in today’s modern world of online booking engines?  This is the question that many are asking, and I’d like to answer it with a resounding ‘No’!  Travel consultants are, if anything, even more essential now than they have ever been, and I’d recommend anyone to work with one when considering your next vacation. A Note from our President, 01 April 2020

April 01, 2020 | Ian Kalinowsky

Dear clients,

We believe in the power of travel. It connects business partners, families and friends. Travel also allows us to broaden our horizons and to open our minds to new cultures and countries. We believe in helping you Create Your Best Days Ever! and for many of our clients we know that involves travel experiences.

Temporarily, the global travel industry, the largest industry on the planet, has abruptly ceased to be able to assist you with your travel needs. As the safety and well-being of our partners and employees are of highest priority, we have taken the necessary steps to protect our colleagues, while also ensuring, to the best of our ability, no disruption to the services you need. Though having to temporarily lay off the bulk of our staff they have continued to assist our clients return from Africa, Poland, Asia and the Antarctic. They have worked tirelessly, with rules and procedures that are still changing every day. It is a tribute to the professionalism of our travel consultants and their dedication of service to you, our clients.

We continue to have a small staff working in the office and from home. The remainder will be returning when the governments allow us to come back.  We ask for your patience in these unprecedented times.

April Fool’s Day

April 01, 2020 | Lois Farley

April 1st, known as April Fools’ Day or All Fools’ Day, is here and if you’re like me, I’m kind of feeling like Mother Nature is playing a very nasty prank on humankind. The COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact our world in many different ways and the seriousness of it makes it pretty hard to feel much like laughing. But, boy, if there was ever a time we needed to laugh, it’s now!

Update on COVID-19

March 18, 2020 | Lois Farley

As the COVID-19 outbreak continues to affect the communities where we live and work (and communities around the world where we love to travel), please know that we are working diligently to assist our clients. Those who are currently travelling we’re assisting to get home safely; those booked to travel over the next few days and weeks, to reschedule their travel plans for future travel; cancelling plans for clients when  future travel is not an option.

We must also do all we can to ensure the health and safety of both our staff and clients.

On the Silver Screen

February 29, 2020 | Lois Farley

When I’m sitting in a theatre, or on my couch, watching a movie, I often wonder where in the world they filmed the shot of the roaring waterfall, or the glass-like lake, or, for example, the Cliffs of Insanity… I’ve watched The Princess Bride more times than I can count… I’m not ashamed, it’s a great movie.

So I researched some of the filming locations of some of my favourite movies, and lo and behold, I found out that Great Canadian Travel has tours that go to some of these locations. So, here is my definitely non-exhaustive list of tours for movie/TV show buffs and those who like to travel to neat places: Read More >

Lindsay’s Best Days Ever!

January 15, 2020 | Lindsay Ruffeski

Disney World truly is the happiest place on Earth!

Their tagline says it’s the happiest place on Earth, but you don’t really understand what they mean until you visit it for yourself. I’m so in love with Disney World, I wish I could return year after year, as I would never get bored! There is always something new to experience.

Growing up I was lucky to be able to take a vacation every year, and usually that was Disney.  The first time I visited Disney World I was 7 years old.  From that moment, I knew it was going to be my favorite place to visit.

Northern Lights in Iceland

January 09, 2020 | Shauna Cook

pc Arctic Adventures

I was recently in Iceland, and since I was only there for a few nights, I hadn’t planned on doing a northern lights tour.  However, when I arrived, I keep on hearing the buzz in Reykjavik that the lights were going to AMAZING that night, so I couldn’t resist! I booked onto a Northern Lights Superjeep tour with Arctic Adventures and I don’t regret it for a second!!

I have been lucky to see the northern lights before in Canada, Greenland and on previous trips to Iceland, however I have never seen them like this night! Read More >

Karen’s Best Days Ever! Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia

December 09, 2019 | Karen Pearson

My partner Chris had told me so much about Salar de Uyuni. The photos from his previous trips were stunning. I was so excited to see the salt flats that I didn’t even mind waking up around 4:00am. The drive from our accommodations to Incahuasi Island took about an hour. In the dark, the salt seemed so much like snow on a gravel road that I felt like I could have still been on the prairies. That feeling was reinforced when the sun came up and everything I could see for miles was white and flat. It was like being on Lake Winnipeg in January, and I felt completely at home. Even some areas where the salt was shallow looked like when the lake starts to melt in the spring and there is a layer of water and slushy snow on top of the ice. The only indication that it was not snow was in one area where the water was bubbling up like a geyser, and around it the salt looked like sand. Read More >
